The Indie Challenge has been happening here at Ninja Book Box throughout the year and I've done better with it than I usually do with reading challenges to be completely honest. However where I've really fallen down is actually keeping track of what I've been reading! I've crossed off squares as I finish books, but then not actually kept a record anywhere of what book it was that I read for that square....
I think this is a challenge that we'll run again every year, but work on ways to make it more motivated throughout the year, and definitely come up with a better way to keep track of what we read! If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them!
Here's what I think I've read so far:
Galloglass by Scarlett Thomas (Genre Fiction, Book from a series, Press over 20 years old)
Heartstopper Volume 1 by Alice Oseman (LGBTQIA, Marginalised People, Kids or YA, Crowdfunded Book)
The Santa Klaus Murder by Mavis Doriel Hay (new to you press, TBR)
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas (Favourite)
On the Come Up by Angie Thomas (Kids/YA, Marginalised People)
A Perfect Explanation by Eleanor Anstruther (Debut, Defies Genre)
My Shitty Twenties by Emily Morris (Non-Fiction, Biography, From my TBR)
Life, Death and Cellos by Isabel Rogers (New to you Press)
Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes? by Holly Bourne (Kids/YA, Marginalised People)
Finn Family Moomintroll by Tove Janson (Translated book, author from another country)
I think my favourite so far has to be On the Come Up, closely followed by Finn Family Moomintroll, but there isn't a book on that list that I wouldn't recommend everyone picking up! Currently I'm reading Sensible Footwear: a Girl's Guide by Kate Charlesworth (coming out from Myriad editions) which is a history of the journey for equal rights in the LGBTQIA+ movement coupled with her own personal history in graphic novel form. It's fantastic so far! I'm also reading The Yogini by Sangeeta Bandyopadhyay (Tilted Axis Press) and Animals Eat Each Other by Elle Nash (404 Ink), both of which are weird and immersive and which I'm looking forward to writing about in more depth once I'm done! Oh, and How Not to be a Boy by Robert Webb for Ninja Book Club of course - it's so far much better than I expected it to be!
How's your indie challenge going so far?
